NOISE / W KINACH

"Noise" otrzymał Nagrodę Specjalną na festiwalu "Dwa Brzegi". W związku z tym film trafi do regularnej dystrybucji kinowej. "Noise" będzie poprzedzał projekcje filmu "Klatka" w reżyserii Johana Storma i Johana Lundborga (premiera: 28.10.2011). Nagroda została przyznana przez firmę Spectator - polskiego przedstawiciela stowarzyszenia EuCiGo - European Cinema Group of Distributors.

"Noise" won a Special Award at the festival "Two Riversides". Therefore, the film will have the regular cinema distribution. "Noise" will be preceding screenings of the film "Isolerad", directed by Johan Storm and Johan Lundborg (release date: 28.10.2011). The award was granted by Spectator - Polish representative of EuCiGo - European Cinema Group of Distributors.

Jeden z naszych pobocznych projektów pt. "Rad & Polon" został zaprezentowany w ostatnim numerze "Notesu na 6 tygodni".

IN STATU NASCENDI

Praca jest luźną interpretacją wiersza Czesława Miłosza "Stwarzanie świata", jednak zasadniczym punktem wyjścia do jej przygotowania jest opinia poety o filmie, jako o „medium, które rości sobie pretensje do pokazywania rzeczywistości”.
Technika modelowania i animacji 3D od zawsze silnie aspiruje do odtwarzania rzeczywistości. W swojej chęci mimetyzmu pozostaje przy tym na etapie, na którym malarstwo sztalugowe było u progu XVI wieku. Zarówno ten proces, jak i renesansowy precedens doskonale odzwierciedlają tezę postawioną przez Miłosza.
Aby podkreślić swoistą niemożność odzwierciedlenia rzeczywistości przez film, przedstawiamy "zmaganie się" z kształtowaniem obrazu - proces renderowania niejako przyłapany „in statu nascendi”. Próbujemy zatem uchwycić ten moment kreacji, który jest najbardziej efemeryczny - tymczasowe, fragmentaryczne fazy renderu.
Przez analogię do procesów chemicznych, animacja nosi tytuł „In statu nascendi”. Termin ten odnosi się do produktów przejściowych reakcji chemicznych, których nie można wyodrębnić ze środowiska tej reakcji. Istnieją one zatem tylko "w trakcie tworzenia”, po czym zanikają.

Praca powstała na zamówienie Nadbałtyckiego Centrum Kultury jako część wystawy "Sztuka jest w ogóle podejrzana".

Dźwięk zaprojektowany przez Adama Witkowskiego jest bezpośrednim zapisem obrazu wykonanym przy użyciu programu dla osób niewidomych.

Halfway done, but finished...
At the surface level this work is a loose interpretation of the poem "Creating the World" by Czeslaw Milosz, but its main purpose is to refer to Milosz's opinion about the film, as "a medium that claims to show the reality."
From the very beginning techniques of modeling and 3D animation very strongly aspire to play the reality.
To highlight a peculiar inability to reflect reality by the film, we focus on the "struggle" of generating an image. We capture the process of rendering "in statu nascendi" ("under construction"). Therefore we try to intercept this moment of the creative process, which is the most ephemeral - a temporary, piecemeal render phase. In the course of animation every next frame is more accurately rendered but still far from the target appearance. By analogy to chemical processes, the term "in statu nascendi" refers to the intermediate products of chemical reactions, which can not be isolated from the environment of this reaction. They are therefore just "under construction", and then disappear.
This process highlights the "struggle" of art (technology in the service of art) with the reflection of reality, and proves the thesis staked by Milosz.

Sound designed by Adam Witkowski is a direct transcription of the image made with a software dedicated for blind people.

Work commisioned by The Baltic Cultural Centre as a part of exhibition "Art is generally suspicious".

DECOMPOSED RUG

Someone turned one shot from our latest movie "Noise" into an animated gif and it became widely popular as a "trippy rug". We found it to be a pretext to reveal another take from this scene. This one wasn't used in the final edit of the film.
For all those, who wonder - the rug was cut with sheet metal shears, not photoshopped.

HAPHAZARD PROJECT #1

Pierwszy z serii sporadycznych, niepowiązanych ze sobą projektów, które w przyszłości zamierzamy przekuć na pełnowymiarowe realizacje.

Since we have more ideas than we are able to put into realizations we start a serie of unrelated to each other mini projects. Each project will be announcing the idea that we would like to expand in the future in full-scale work.

IN STATU NASCENDI / NCK

20 maja w Nadbałtyckim Centrum Kultury odbyła się premiera "In statu nacendi". Nasze nowe wideo można oglądać w Gdańsku jeszcze do 20 czerwca. Kolejne projekcje odbędą się wkrótce w Sopocie i w Sztokholmie.
Za dżwięk do pracy odpowiedzialny jest Adam Witkowski.

20th May in the Baltic Sea Culture Centre held the premiere of "In statu nacendi". Our new video can be viewed in Gdansk until 20th June. Subsequent screenings will be held soon in Sopot and Stockholm.

W PIĘCIU SMAKACH / NOMINACJE

Teledysk Brodka "W pięciu smakach" został nominowany do nagrody Eska Music Awards w kategorii "Video Roku". Nagrody przyznawane są przez Radio Eska. Nie jesteśmy pewni, czy to przejaw ironii, czy synestezji, ale dziękujemy!
Teledysk "W pięciu smakach" jest także nominowany do nagrody Fryderyki 2011 w kategorii "Wideoklip Roku".

Our video made for Brodka "W pięciu smakach" was nominated for Eska Music Awards for the best Polish (mainstream) music video. Awards are granted by... a radio station. We don't know if it's an irony or synesthesia. Either way - thank you!
"W pięciu smakach" video is also nominated for Fryderyki 2011 - awards of Polish music industry - in category "Video of the year".
